CableDesk is an experimental native Linux app that aims to turn a direct USB4 or Thunderbolt cable into a near-local desktop connection. Phase 2 networking and discovery are implemented in software (NetworkManager, hotplug, Avahi, peer validation, Polkit prepare) and simulation-tested, but have not been run on real Thunderbolt/USB4 hardware or a second machine. Pairing and Sunshine/Moonlight streaming are not started yet — ordinary USB-C is not enough, and charging is never assumed.
highlights
- ▹Phase 1 foundation: workspace, Fedora compatibility backend, GTK UI, diagnostics CLI
- ▹Phase 2 networking software: NetworkManager profile, hotplug, Avahi discovery, peer validation
- ▹Agent/helper with Polkit prepare-direct-link and cabledeskctl session/status/repair-network
- ▹Session panel in the UI that polls the agent
- ▹Not yet proven on physical USB4/Thunderbolt two-machine hardware
- ▹Phase 3 pairing and Phase 4 streaming not started
